Cool Mo & Hot Summer Tips

Woof!  It’s your cool pal Mo here again!  Keepin’ cool for these hot summer days is the M.O. (get it?  Hehe! M.O. & Mo)!

Even though I like to bake in the sun, Susan doesn’t let me lay there very long  because she is very aware that dogs can get heatstroke!   If it’s over 80° F, Susan makes sure to keep me cool.

Did you know that dogs don’t sweat through their skin?  We pant to cool down.  So if you are panting a lot, you may be one Hot Dog!!  Hehe.   No joking dog, this may be a sign you’ve got heatstroke.

So here are some super cool and cooling TIPS for my canine pals (and your humans too)!

Long Hair - Ha, wouldn’t really know what long hair is like because mine is super short.  But if you do have long hair, hopefully your human pal keeps you brushed and mat-free.  Long hair can have a cooling effects when it’s groomed for good air circulation.

Short Hair - A nice damp cool washcloth feels really great when I’m feeling hot!

Water - I love to slurp up cool fresh water.  Susan has a bowl for me in the house and outside too!

The CAR! - Never leave us puppers alone in a hot car!  It’s like a broiling oven in there!  Thinking about any of my fury friends being in a hot car, roasting in the sun, makes me hot under my dog collar!!

Swimming Pool - Don’t go swimming unless your human pal is right there too!  Sometime we canines don’t know how to get out of the pool, very dangerous.   Also, pool water isn’t good for our skin, so a good fresh water rinse from the garden hose afterwards is a good idea.  Hey, and don’t drink the pool water, the chlorine isn’t good for us either.

Hot Pavement - Ouch!  Dancing across hot asphalt is not fun!  It hurts and could burn my paws!  Susan and I go for our walks very early on summer mornings when the air is still cool.  That means the paved trail is cool too!

This pup’s name is Summer!  Perfect name for my summer new bark.  Painting by my pal Susan.
