Mo's Walk on the Trail with Tips for Harness & Leash
Hey there, it’s Mo here again! Let’s go walking!! Walking with Susan is the best! We love to go to the trail together. She calls it “Our Happy Place.”
“Mo-O, are you ready to go for a W.A.L.K.?” Susan doesn’t think I know what that means, but I AM READY!! Can’t she see me sitting here on her shoes? Sometimes I thump Susan on the head with my super waggin’ tail while she’s putting on her shoes. I think she gets the message!
We have to drive to the trail so first we get in the car. Susan opens the door and says, “Load up” and in I go. The road we live on has lots of big trucks and fast cars so we like to go to the trail. I know the way and whinny until we get to where we park. Then Susan opens the door and I wait while she puts my Gentle Leader on. I LOVE IT!!
TIPS: Susan calls my head harness / lead a Gentle Leader. It’s like a horse halter. Here’s a picture of me looking HANDSOME wearing my lead:
When I was first learning to wear my lead, Susan would have the nose loop hanging around her wrist while holding a cheese in her hand. CHEESE! I’ll do anything for cheese! While I sniffed the cheese, she would slid the loop off her wrist and onto my nose. Then I’d get the cheese!! Pretty soon I just liked the lead because it reminded me of yummy, delicious, mind boggling CHEESE! It also didn’t take me long to know that when she got out the leash & leader that we were going someplace for a W.A.L.K.
Hey, did you know that my nose talks to my brain and my nose leads my head. I guess that’s pretty obvious by how a scent can get my legs running to find what that smell is. I just want to GO in the direction of my nose. The Gentle Leader works because it guides the direction of my head and nose!
Some people think I’m wearing a muzzle. Hehe, that’s silly. I’m not aggressive but they don’t know that. We’ll just leave it at that.
I walk on Susan’s left side. My leash is “soft,” meaning it is loose and hangs in “J”. I know how to follow and stay close. Really, the leash and leader are so other people feel safe. I’m a good boy, I listen to Susan and know my commands. People on the trail often say what a well behaved dog I am.
My friend Penny gives me kisses. We love seeing each other on the trail. Susan just finished a painting of Penny which you can see below. There is also a Reel on Instagram that shows the progression of painting Penny’s portrait.
Thanks for joining me on my walk. Next time I’ll talk about my backpack and carrying my own food when we go hiking.
Bark for now. Your pal, Mo
